Is it possible to book a short break?

Yes, some boats are available for short breaks on all but the busiest parts of the holiday season. Each weekend Friday-Monday or mid-week Monday-Friday.

How much experience do I need?

Previous experience is not essential, you will find our Adventurers very easy to steer and control. Our Turn-round staff, all RYA qualified instructors, will spend adequate time with you to ensure that you feel safe and confident.

Can I bring a young family?

Yes of course. Facilities for children include:
  • Safe, high sided back decks on many boats.
  • Buoyancy aids for children which are recommended to be worn whenever children are out on deck.
  • Cot sides are available on some boats.
All of these can be provided without charge, please let us know your requirements when you book.

Where can we go?

The choice is from 1700 miles of canals and rivers. Our boats are licensed to cruise over almost all of these waterways. In a few cases where you need an additional licence, we will be happy to advise on requirements and cost. Cruise planning is made easy by the excellent range of Cruising Guides and Route Planners available by mail order from our office. Please feel free to phone for advice at any time.

Do I need a steerer's license?

No form of steerer's licence is required for boats carrying up to 12 people. There is no age restriction either, but if children are allowed to drive they must be under the close supervision of an experienced adult; otherwise your insurance cover may be made invalid, leaving you to cover the full cost of an accident. Adventure Fleet require you to restrict the number of persons who may be on board at any time to no more than the number of berths plus two. This does not apply to boats over 10 berths as the carriage of more than 12 persons on a boat requires special certification of the boat and crew. This is a D.T.I. regulation and contravention can lead to a heavy fine.

Can I bring a pet?

One well behaved family pet is welcome on all our boats. There is a charge for additional animals. We do also make a charge for extra cleaning or damage caused by pets.

Where can I stop at night?

On the canals moorings are free and the choice is yours. There are many 'designated' moorings provided with tying rings and bollards in the more "civilised" spots like village wharfs and canal side pubs. If you prefer solitude then you are free to tie up at any point along the towpath provided you are not a hazard to passing boats.

Do I need to bring groceries?

As you wish. We can supply an order form if requested. Return it one week before your start date and your order will be awaiting you on the day. Alternatively, bring your own groceries or call in at one or other of the nearby Supermarkets on your way through Daventry or Rugby.

Are there any extra costs?

The hire charge shown on our price list includes VAT and covers all you will need to keep the boat running. On most boats a small nonreturnable damage waiver is charged based upon boat capacity, and this is included in your final invoice. On some larger boats a refundable security deposit of £120 is added to your final invoice and is returned by post shortly after the end of your cruise less the cost of any accidental damage or lost equipment.
